Introduction to Sustainable Floristry
Introduction to Sustainable Floristry
This 3 day introduction to sustainable floristry is a great place to start if you’re considering a career in floristry.
At Floribunda Rose we use sustainable methods, eliminating single use plastics from our studio, sending as little to landfill as possible, never using floral foam and using exclusively British flowers and foliage.
Each day you will be immersed in the world of floristry in our tranquil floral design studio. We have small groups (of no more than 8 attendees) so that we can guide you through each process, giving you the opportunity to create each design that we demonstrate, with time to ask questions along the way.
Course Outline
Day One
10am - 4:30pm
A.M. We will walk you through the ingredients available to us and then demonstrate how we create table centres. You'll pick out your floral palette and create your own.
P.M. The afternoon session starts with a talk on essential tools and maintenance followed by sourcing and conditioning flowers and foliage in order to get the most out of them.
Next we'll demonstrate how we go about creating small but essential designs - Boutonnieres and Corsages. We'll show you how we like to photograph ours, and then it'll be your turn to create and photograph your own.
Day Two
10am - 4:30pm
A.M. Our second day begins with a discussion on sympathy work followed by a demonstration of how we create fully biodegradable coffin toppers. We'll guide you through how to create, present, and transport funeral work to ensure that loved ones have the most beautiful, natural final tribute.
P.M. We will guide you through pricing and stem counts, because we know that pricing can feel really unnerving, and ordering the right amount of flowers for a project can feel overwhelming (and can be the difference between making a profit or a loss).
We'll finish day two with Floral Crowns, we'll show you the methods we use, and then with a little guidance you'll create your own, whether a full boho look, or a more delicate design, we'll give you the confidence to create crowns that can be made a day ahead of a wedding or event.
Day Three
10am - 4:30pm
A.M. We'll create bouquets two ways. How to create a spiral handtied is such a useful skill to have, we often use this method for gift bouquets and bridesmaid's bouquets. When we need to create an asymmetrical or larger bouquet we create bouquets with a chicken wire armature as it gives support, so we'll demonstrate both methods, and you'll create your own.
You'll have the opportunity to choose from a selection of hand dyed silk, or bamboo silk ribbons to finish your bouquet beautifully.
P.M. In the final session of this course our photographer will capture you at work, as well as the work that you have created. This afternoon will involve working with dried flowers. We will create an everlasting flower hoop on a willow base, and then you'll create your own.
Our day will finish with a Q&A, and cake to celebrate!
